History of the Hispanic Club of Lakeland
The beginning of the Club can be traced to the year 1987 when several Puerto Rican families got together and decided to meet and form a group to foster the unity among families from several Latin American countries. As the group grew it was prudent to create a constitution and by-laws, and a Board of Directors was formed in 1988. A “flamboyant” tree and the colors orange and green were chosen for the original logo. The club now has over 350 members with a varied representation from many Latin countries. A new logo was adopted in 2009 using as inspiration the actual logo of the City of Lakeland, thus, we have a “swan” or “cisne” now.
